Main Agreement — Rental Terms and Conditions
Zelfi Ltd (trading as Zelf) Effective date: 30/06/2026
This Agreement sets out the terms on which Zelfi Ltd, trading as Zelf, provides its app-based, pay-as-you-go vehicle rental service to You. It is made up of these Terms, together with Schedule A, Schedule B, Schedule C and the Driver Eligibility Policy, as explained in Clause 2.
Clause 1 — About these Terms
1.1 These Terms set out the agreement between You and Us for the use of Zelf’s pay-as-you-go, app-based vehicle rental service.
1.2 We are Zelfi Ltd, trading as Zelf, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 05632396), with our registered office at Unit 1, Hopton Road, Devizes, SN10 2EU.
1.3 You can contact Us at info@zelf.co.uk or by phone on 0345 034 3838.
1.4 This Agreement is made up of these Terms, Schedule A, Schedule B, Schedule C and the Driver Eligibility Policy, as explained in Clause 2.
1.5 This Agreement is available to consumers booking the Service for personal use. It is also available to businesses and organisations that have been approved for a Business Account under Clause 1A. Where a Business Account applies, the additional terms in Clause 1A govern alongside the rest of this Agreement.
1.6 By creating an Account or making a Booking, You agree to be bound by this Agreement.
1.7 We also have a Privacy Policy and a Cookies & SDK Policy, which explain how We handle Your data. These are not part of this Agreement, but You should read them.
Clause 1A — Business Accounts
1A.1 A business, sole trader, partnership or other organisation may apply for a Business Account by contacting Us. We will assess the application and confirm whether a Business Account is available. We are not obliged to offer a Business Account to any applicant.
1A.2 A Business Account does not replace individual driver verification. Each person who will drive a Vehicle under the Business Account must hold their own separate Account, verified to the same standard as any other Driver under the Driver Eligibility Policy. This is a requirement of Our insurance cover and cannot be waived.
1A.3 Once a driver’s Account has been verified and they have been approved as a Nominated Driver on the Business Account, they may be attached to any Booking made under that Business Account without needing per-Booking re-approval — unlike the Additional Driver process in Driver Eligibility Policy Section 6, which requires approval for each Booking separately.
1A.4 The Business Account Holder is the person or entity that applied for and holds the Business Account. The Business Account Holder is responsible to Us, in the first instance, for all charges, fees, fines and other amounts arising from any Booking made under the Business Account — whether or not the Nominated Driver who drove was at fault, and regardless of which Nominated Driver made or used the Booking. This does not prevent the Business Account Holder from recovering any amount from the Nominated Driver separately.
1A.5 Each Nominated Driver remains personally bound by the Conditions of Use, and Schedule B applies to them in the same way as it applies to any Driver. If a Nominated Driver loses Zero Liability under Schedule B, B2, the resulting liability falls on the Business Account Holder in the first instance under Clause 1A.4, without prejudice to any separate claim We or the Business Account Holder may have against the Nominated Driver.
1A.6 The Business Account Holder must keep the list of Nominated Drivers accurate and up to date, and must tell Us promptly if any Nominated Driver leaves the organisation, loses their entitlement to drive, or should no longer have access to the Business Account for any reason.
1A.7 We may suspend or terminate a Business Account on the same grounds as an individual Account under Clause 15, and additionally where the Business Account Holder fails to maintain accurate Nominated Driver records under Clause 1A.6, or where the pattern of use across the Business Account gives Us reasonable concern about continuing to provide the Service.
1A.8 Payment under a Business Account is handled in accordance with Schedule A. Where We agree to provide invoiced billing for a Business Account, the terms of that arrangement — including payment period, credit limit and any additional charges — will be confirmed separately in writing and apply in place of the standard card/Wallet mechanism for that Account.
Clause 2 — Interpretation and Order of Documents
2.1 This Agreement consists of these Terms, Schedule A, Schedule B, Schedule C and the Driver Eligibility Policy, which together form the contract between You and Us.
2.2 These Terms take priority over each Schedule and the Driver Eligibility Policy, except where a Schedule or the Driver Eligibility Policy deals specifically with a topic, in which case that Schedule or Policy governs on that topic.
2.3 As between the Schedules and the Driver Eligibility Policy: Schedule B governs liability and insurance; Schedule C governs breakdown and incident handling; Schedule A governs fees and charges; and the version of Schedule A and the Driver Eligibility Policy in force at the time of Your Booking applies to that Booking, even if We update them afterwards.
2.4 The Privacy Policy, Cookies & SDK Policy and Integrations/Sub-processors page explain how We handle Your data. They do not form part of this Agreement, and nothing in them creates or removes any contractual right under it.
2.5 References to “Schedule B, B2”, “Schedule A, A5” and similar are references to the numbered sections of those documents as in force at the relevant time.
Clause 3 — Eligibility and Your Account
3.1 To use the Service, You must register for an Account through the App and meet the requirements of the Driver Eligibility Policy, which sets out in full who can hold an Account and the verification You must complete.
3.2 You may only hold one Account. We verify this as part of Our identity checks, and We may suspend or terminate any duplicate Account We identify, in addition to Our rights under Clause 15.
3.3 You must give Us accurate, complete and up-to-date information when You register and at all times afterwards, including if Your circumstances change in a way that affects Your eligibility under the Driver Eligibility Policy. You must tell Us promptly if any information You’ve given Us is no longer accurate.
3.4 You are responsible for keeping Your login details and Account secure, and for all activity on Your Account, except where that activity results from Our negligence or a breach of Our own obligations under this Agreement. If You believe Your Account has been accessed without Your permission, You must tell Us as soon as possible.
3.5 You must continue to meet the requirements of the Driver Eligibility Policy throughout the time You hold an Account, not only when You register. Driver Eligibility Policy Section 7 explains what happens if You stop meeting those requirements, whether during a Booking or otherwise.
Clause 4 — Booking
4.1 You can request a Booking through the App, by selecting Your pick-up and drop-off details, the Vehicle, and the dates and times You want.
4.2 A Booking does not come into existence, and no contract is formed between You and Us, until both:
- We have verified that You meet the requirements of the Driver Eligibility Policy for that Booking; and
- You have paid the Rental Cost in full.
4.3 Until both of these have happened, what You have made is a request for a Booking, not a Booking itself. We may decline a request at any time before it becomes a Booking, including where verification fails or is incomplete.
4.4 Once a Booking exists, the Deposit/Hold and other provisions of Schedule A apply to it, including when the Deposit/Hold is charged and how the Rental Period and any Extension are calculated.
4.5 If You request a Booking through a channel outside the App (for example, a website booking tool), the request is held provisionally until You complete payment and verification in the App. Clause 4.2 applies in the same way regardless of where the request was made.
Clause 5 — Cancellation and Extension
5.1 If Your request for a Booking does not become a Booking under Clause 4.2 — for example, because verification is not completed or payment is not made — there is no Booking, no contract, and nothing for either of us to honour. No charge applies, and no cancellation process is needed.
5.2 Once a Booking exists, You may cancel it. The charges that apply, based on how much notice You give, are set out in Schedule A, A3.
5.3 If You no-show — meaning You do not unlock the Vehicle within the applicable grace period after Your Booking’s start time — the charges in Schedule A, A3 apply.
5.4 You may extend Your Booking through the App, or We may extend it, or it may be extended automatically through continued use beyond the original end time. Extensions are charged in accordance with Schedule A, A2A and Schedule A, A4.
5.5 Once the Vehicle has been unlocked, You cannot cancel Your Booking — Schedule A, A3 confirms no refund applies from that point.
Clause 6 — Starting Your Rental
6.1 Once Your Booking exists, the App will show You the Vehicle’s location. When You reach the Vehicle, You start Your Rental by tapping Start in the App.
6.2 Before You drive away, the App will show You any damage already recorded against the Vehicle. You must check the Vehicle and tell Us, through the App, about any damage You see that is not already shown.
6.3 If You do not tell Us about damage You could reasonably have seen before driving away, We may treat that damage as having happened during Your Booking — see Schedule B, B5.
6.4 You must complete any vehicle-specific tutorial shown in the App before Your Rental begins.
6.5 The Deposit/Hold is charged when You start Your Rental, in accordance with Schedule A, A2.
Clause 7 — Telematics and Remote Control
7.1 The Vehicle is fitted with telematics technology. This allows Us to monitor and record information about the Vehicle and its use — including but not limited to its location, route, status, fuel or charge level, and other operating parameters — and to remotely lock, unlock, block or unblock it.
7.2 We may use this technology to: locate the Vehicle; confirm where it was parked or left; support Your Booking (for example, mileage and fuel calculations under Schedule A, A5); investigate an Incident or dispute under Schedule B or Schedule C; and recover the Vehicle if it is lost, stolen, or not returned.
7.3 Where Your Wallet balance reaches the threshold in Schedule A, A2A, We may remotely block the Vehicle from being restarted.
7.4 We may also remotely lock the Vehicle where reasonably necessary — for example, to protect it from theft if it has been left unattended.
7.5 How We collect, use and store data from the Vehicle’s telematics is explained in Our Privacy Policy.
Clause 8 — Technology Dependency
8.1 The Service depends on technology, including the App, telematics, GPS, mobile networks and the Vehicle’s own systems. This technology can occasionally fail, be delayed, or be unavailable, for reasons within or outside Our control.
8.2 If You are unable to start Your Rental because of a failure of the App, Our telematics systems, or the wider mobile network infrastructure the Service depends on, We will refund You for the period of the delay. This Clause does not apply to a problem with Your own phone or device — for example, no signal in Your specific location, no battery, or a lost or damaged phone — see Clause 11.5(c).
8.3 If a failure under 8.2 means You are unable to use the Vehicle at all for Your intended purpose — for example, because the delay caused You to miss Your plans — We will refund Your Booking in full.
8.4 If the App, telematics or other technology used to provide the Service fails or is unavailable once Your Rental has started, Your Rental continues and charges continue to apply as normal, based on the Vehicle’s trip data.
8.5 If You are affected by a technology failure during Your Rental — for example, You are unable to end Your Rental, lock the Vehicle, or use a feature You’d normally expect — contact Us as soon as possible. We will review what happened using the Vehicle’s trip data and other available records, and adjust any charge that resulted from the failure rather than from Your own use of the Vehicle. If You are unable to end Your Rental yourself, We will end it for You in accordance with Clause 11.5(b).
8.6 Except for Our liability for death or personal injury caused by Our negligence, or anything else that cannot be excluded by law, We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from a technology failure — including missed connections, accommodation, lost earnings, or similar loss. This mirrors the position for Breakdowns under Schedule C, C4.
Clause 9 — What You Agree From the Outset
9.1 You confirm that the information You have given Us is true and complete, and that You have told Us anything that might reasonably affect Our decision to enter into this Agreement with You or Our insurance cover. Giving Us false or misleading information may mean You lose Zero Liability under Schedule B, and may affect Our insurance cover for Your Booking — see Schedule B, B2(o) and Driver Eligibility Policy Section 2.
9.2 You confirm You have not relied on any promise or guarantee about the Rental or the Vehicle other than what is set out in this Agreement or shown to You in the App.
9.3 You must tell Us as soon as possible, through the App or by contacting Us, if anything changes after You make a Booking that could affect Your eligibility under the Driver Eligibility Policy — for example, a new endorsement or conviction on Your licence, or any other change in Your circumstances.
9.4 Where You are liable to Us under Schedule B for a third party’s claim or costs, You agree to indemnify Us for that claim or those costs accordingly. This clause does not make You liable for anything beyond what Schedule B already makes You liable for — it simply confirms how that liability is met where a third party is involved.
Clause 10 — Your Responsibilities
10.1 When using the Service, You must follow the Conditions of Use set out in Schedule B, B4 and any in-App instructions referred to there. Schedule B explains what happens if You don’t — including when You lose Zero Liability under Schedule B, B2, and when Your liability is limited to the loss actually caused under Schedule B, B2A.
10.2 You must use the App as intended, and not interfere with, circumvent, or attempt to manipulate the App, the Vehicle’s systems, or the telematics referred to in Clause 7.
10.3 You must keep a valid debit or credit card registered to Your Account at all times, with sufficient available funds to meet Your Booking and any other amounts that may become due under this Agreement.
10.4 You must cooperate with Us, respond to Our reasonable requests, and give Us accurate and honest information throughout Your relationship with Us — not only in relation to a specific Incident or claim under Schedule C, C8, but generally in how You deal with Us.
10.5 Where this Agreement, a Schedule or the Driver Eligibility Policy gives You a specific obligation — for example, around payment, eligibility, or vehicle care — that specific obligation applies in addition to this Clause.
Clause 11 — Returning the Vehicle
11.1 You must return the Vehicle to the location shown in the App for Your Booking by Your Booking’s end time. Depending on the Vehicle, this may be a specific bay, a road or street, a wider area, or another designated space — the App will show You what applies to Your Booking.
11.2 You end Your Rental by tapping End Rental in the App and completing the check-in process, including any required photos. Returning the Vehicle to a location does not, by itself, end Your Booking — Your Booking is not ended, and time continues to accrue, until check-in is complete. See Schedule A, A4.
11.3 You must return the Vehicle in accordance with Schedule B, B4.3, including locked, secured, and to an authorised return location as shown in the App.
11.4 If You return the Vehicle outside the location shown in the App, or otherwise fail to return it properly, charges under Schedule A, A4 may apply.
11.5 We may also end Your Booking Ourselves:
- in the circumstances set out in Driver Eligibility Policy Section 7 — for example, if We become aware that You no longer meet the eligibility requirements of that Policy;
- if You contact Us because You are unable to end Your Rental yourself due to a technology failure under Clause 8 — We will end it for You and determine the actual end time and location using the Vehicle’s trip data and other available records; or
- if You contact Us because You are unable to end Your Rental due to a problem with Your own phone or device — for example, no signal, no battery, or a lost or damaged phone — We will end it for You using the Vehicle’s trip data and other available records. Charges continue to apply as normal up to the point Your Rental is ended, since this is not caused by a failure of Our Service.
Clause 12 — Charges
12.1 You must pay all amounts that become due under this Agreement, including the Rental Cost, the Deposit/Hold, and any other charges under Schedule A, Schedule B or Schedule C that arise from Your Booking.
12.2 This includes amounts arising from the actions of an Additional Driver You have added to Your Booking — You remain responsible to Us for these in the first instance, whether or not the Additional Driver was at fault, in accordance with Driver Eligibility Policy Section 6. This does not prevent You from separately recovering any amount from the Additional Driver yourself.
12.3 We will collect amounts owed from Your registered payment method, Your Wallet, or both, in accordance with Schedule A and Schedule B, B3.
12.4 If You disagree with a charge, contact Us in accordance with Schedule B, B8.
12.5 Interest may accrue on overdue amounts in accordance with Schedule A, A10.
Clause 13 — Damage and Incidents
13.1 If the Vehicle is damaged, stolen, or involved in a collision or other Incident during Your Booking, Schedule C tells You what to do and how to report it, and Schedule B tells You when You are, and are not, financially responsible for what happened.
13.2 Provided You use the Vehicle within the Conditions of Use, You have Zero Liability for accidental damage, theft or attempted theft, vandalism, and third-party damage costs arising from an Incident — see Schedule B, B1.
13.3 You lose Zero Liability, and become liable for the loss and costs arising from a Booking, in the circumstances set out in Schedule B, B2. For any other breach of the Conditions of Use, Your liability is limited to the loss that breach actually caused — see Schedule B, B2A.
13.4 You must report any collision, Incident, damage or suspected damage to Us in accordance with Schedule C, within the timelines set out there.
Clause 14 — Breakdown
14.1 If the Vehicle suffers a Breakdown during Your Booking, Schedule C tells You what to do and how to get help.
14.2 If the Vehicle cannot be repaired in time for You to complete Your Booking, and the Breakdown was not caused by Your breach of the Conditions of Use, We will try to provide a replacement Vehicle. If We are unable to do so, We will refund the unused portion of Your Booking. This is Our own commercial commitment to You, not an insurance benefit.
14.3 You must report a Breakdown to Us in accordance with Schedule C, C2.
Clause 15 — Termination
15.1 You may close Your Account at any time, through the App or by contacting Us. You cannot close Your Account while You have an active Rental — You must end Your Rental first, in accordance with Clause 11. Closing Your Account does not affect Your responsibility for any Booking already made, or any amounts already due, under this Agreement — these remain payable in full.
15.2 We may suspend or terminate Your Account immediately, without prior notice, if:
- You no longer meet the eligibility requirements of the Driver Eligibility Policy — see Driver Eligibility Policy Section 7;
- We identify that You hold more than one Account — see Clause 3.2; or
- We reasonably believe it is necessary or appropriate to do so, including because of: dangerous, reckless or careless driving; abusive, threatening or aggressive behaviour towards Our staff, agents or contractors; breach of this Agreement; or a pattern shown by the Vehicle’s trip data or Our records — for example, repeated excessive speeding, repeated late returns, or repeated evidence of smoking or vaping — or any other conduct that gives Us reasonable concern about the risk of continuing to provide the Service to You.
15.3 Where We suspend or terminate Your Account under Clause 15.2, We will tell You why, and what (if anything) You can do to resolve it, as soon as reasonably possible.
15.4 If We end an active Booking because You no longer meet the eligibility requirements of the Driver Eligibility Policy, or because You held more than one Account under Clause 15.2(b), You are not entitled to a refund of any part of that Booking.
15.5 If We suspend or terminate Your Account under Clause 15.2(c), We will refund the unused portion of any active Booking, and any future Booking that can no longer proceed as a result, in full.
15.6 Termination or suspension of Your Account does not affect any right or obligation that arose before it took effect, including Your liability for any amounts already due under this Agreement.
Clause 16 — Our Obligations
16.1 We will provide the Service with reasonable care and skill, in accordance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
16.2 We maintain the fleet through a regular programme of servicing, MOT testing and routine checks, and respond to reported faults as soon as reasonably practicable. This does not guarantee a Vehicle will be fault-free during Your Booking — see Clause 6.2 and Schedule B, B5 for what to do if You notice a fault or damage.
16.3 We will maintain the insurance described in Schedule B, B9 for the duration of the Service.
16.4 We will deal with Your queries, complaints and requests under this Agreement promptly and fairly.
16.5 Nothing in this Clause adds to, or reduces, any specific commitment We have given elsewhere in this Agreement, a Schedule, or the Driver Eligibility Policy — including Our commitments under Schedule B (Zero Liability and insurance), Schedule C (breakdown and Incident support), and Clause 8 (technology failure refunds).
Clause 17 — Limits on Our Liability
17.1 Nothing in this Agreement excludes or limits Our liability for:
- death or personal injury caused by Our negligence;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or
- any other liability which cannot be excluded or limited by law.
17.2 Subject to Clause 17.1, We are not liable to You for any loss of profit, loss of business, loss of opportunity, or other indirect or consequential loss arising from this Agreement, whether suffered by You or a third party.
17.3 Subject to Clause 17.1, Our total liability to You under this Agreement, for any cause, is limited to the Rental Cost You paid for the Booking giving rise to the claim.
17.4 Subject to Clause 17.1, where this Agreement, a Schedule or the Driver Eligibility Policy sets out a specific remedy for something going wrong — for example, the refunds in Clause 8 for a technology failure, or the replacement Vehicle or refund in Schedule C, C4 for a Breakdown — that remedy is the full extent of Our liability for that event, and Clauses 17.2 and 17.3 apply to anything beyond it.
Clause 18 — Complaints and Alternative Dispute Resolution
18.1 If You have a complaint about Your Booking or this Agreement, contact Us using the details in Clause 1.3. We will try to resolve Your complaint promptly and fairly.
18.2 We are not currently a member of an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) scheme. ADR is a way of resolving disputes with a business without going to court, using an independent, accredited provider. We are not required by law to offer it, and We do not currently do so.
18.3 This does not affect Your right to bring a claim against Us in the courts of England and Wales, or to seek advice from Citizens Advice or Trading Standards at any time.
18.4 If We become a member of an ADR scheme in the future, We will update this Clause and tell You how to access it.
Clause 19 — Events Outside Our Control (Force Majeure)
19.1 Neither of us is liable for any failure or delay in performing this Agreement caused by something outside that party’s reasonable control, including flood, fire, severe weather, pandemic or public health emergency, civil unrest, terrorism, government action or restriction, a fuel supply disruption, or a fleet-wide manufacturer safety recall (“an Event Outside Our Control”).
19.2 This Clause does not apply to a Breakdown or Incident affecting a single Vehicle (Schedule C governs that), or to a failure of the App, telematics or network service (Clause 8 governs that) — it applies only to wider events beyond either party’s control that those Clauses do not already cover.
19.3 If an Event Outside Our Control prevents Us from providing the Service for Your Booking, We will tell You as soon as reasonably possible and refund any amount You have paid for the part of Your Booking affected.
19.4 If an Event Outside Our Control prevents You from starting, continuing, or returning the Vehicle for Your Booking, We may, at Our discretion, reduce or waive any cancellation or late-return charge that would otherwise apply under Schedule A.
19.5 Nothing in this Clause affects Clause 17.1 (liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law).
Clause 20 — General
20.1 Governing law and jurisdiction. This Agreement is governed by the law of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from it will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales, except that if You live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, You may also bring proceedings in the courts of the country You live in.
20.2 Assignment. We may transfer Our rights and obligations under this Agreement to another organisation, but this will not affect Your rights under it. You may not transfer Your rights or obligations under this Agreement to anyone else.
20.3 Severability. If any part of this Agreement is found by a court to be unenforceable, the rest of the Agreement will continue to apply.
20.4 Waiver. If We do not insist immediately that You do anything You are required to do under this Agreement, or if We delay taking steps against You in respect of breaking this Agreement, that will not mean You do not have to do those things, and it will not prevent Us taking steps against You at a later date.
20.5 Entire agreement. This Agreement, together with the Schedules and the Driver Eligibility Policy, is the entire agreement between You and Us in relation to the Service, and replaces any earlier agreement, arrangement or understanding between us about it.
20.6 Notices. We may contact You using the details registered to Your Account, including by email, App notification, or phone. You must keep these details up to date, in accordance with Clause 3.3.
20.7 Third parties. No one other than You and Us has any right to enforce this Agreement, except an Additional Driver or a Nominated Driver, to the extent this Agreement, Schedule B or the Driver Eligibility Policy expressly gives them rights or obligations.
